If you are already using Informant on one or more other computers and want to install Informant on another computer (PC, tablet, or laptop) in your department, follow this guide.
Note: If you are a new customer and haven't set up Informant on any computers yet or are migrating your Informant database from one computer to another, contact our support team for assistance.
Before you begin
- This article assumes you already have Informant installed and working on at least one other computer.
- Check our System requirements to make sure the computer can run Informant.
- If you have OnPatrol and are installing Informant for remote access, refer to Install Informant for remote access on a laptop, tablet, or PC instead.
- You must be logged into the computer with a Windows Administrator account.
Steps to install Informant
- Log into the computer with a Windows user account that has local Administrator permissions.
- Determine what version of Informant you are currently running, as you'll want to install the same version on the new computer. See What version of Informant am I running? for help on how to do this.
- Download the same version of Informant from our Download Informant page that you are currently running on your other computer(s). Note that although Informant version numbers contain 3 parts (X.Y.Z) only the first 2 parts (X.Y) need to match. For example, if you are running 3.30.13, download version 3.30.
Note: If you don't see your current version on the download page, you may need to update to one of the versions listed on that page first. See Updating Informant for details. Otherwise, if you still have a copy of the installer from a previous update, you can use that file to install Informant.
- After downloading or copying the installer file (which will be named informant-v[VERSION]-bundled-setup.exe, where [VERSION] is the product version) to the new computer, double-click the installer file to run it.
- Accept the license agreement on the first screen, click through the remaining prompts, and then click Finish on the last screen.
- When you see the Select Installation Type window, select INFORMANT CLIENT and click OK.
- Informant will search and attempt to automatically connect to your Informant database.
- If your database is found, the installer will display the database information. Click CONFIRM to confirm the information.
- If your database is not found, the installer will notify you that it couldn't find the database and will give you the option to Search Again or Manually Configure the database settings. If this occurs, click Manually Configure to enter the database server and database name: use the connection settings from another computer in the department for reference.
- After the installation, double-click the Informant icon on the desktop and confirm that Informant login window appears.
