This guide will walk you through how to install Informant for use remotely (i.e. as an OnPatrol client). For example, if you want to use Informant from a patrol car, from home, or any other location outside of the station, then follow this guide.

Before you begin

Steps

  1. Log on to the laptop, tablet, or PC with a Windows user account that has administrator permissions on the computer.
  2. Download the version of Informant that corresponds to the version you are running on the other workstations in your department.
  3. Double-click the installer file (i.e., informant-v[VERSION]-bundled-setup.exe) to run it.
  4. If prompted to make changes to your device, click Yes.
  5. Click Next on the first screen.

  6. Click YES to accept the license agreement on the next screen and then click Next:

  7. Wait for the installer to install the software:

  8. After the installation finishes, click Finish:

  9. On the Select Informant Installation Type screen, select ONPATROL CLIENT and click OK:

  10. On the Connect to Your OnPatrol Server screen, enter the public IP address of your OnPatrol Server. See How to find your public IP address for OnPatrol for more details.

  11. In most cases, the OnPatrol TCP/IP port field can be left as-is. Change it only if your department uses a different port number for OnPatrol.
  12. Leave Log level set to "Info."
  13. Click OK.
  14. Double-click the Informant icon on the desktop to open Informant. If you see the login window, your device is successfully configured. If you get an error message, review your settings and check the "Troubleshooting" section for possible remedies.
