Informant hosts its own training server so that users can access this server for the purpose of training in Informant. This training server is a virtual "sandbox" where users are able to create records, play around with new features, and learn how to use Informant without affecting their live database. If there are multiple users accessing the training server, each user will be given an User ID to log in with, and a separate database is attached to each user meaning you won't be affected by other users.

Assigning users their User ID

To log in to the training server, each user will be given a User ID and a shared password that they will use as their credentials. This information will be given out by an Informant representative. Prior to handing this out, an Informant representative will typically ask for the number of users that will be participating in the training server. This is so we can create the user accounts and provide the appropriate amount of User ID's.

A document containing the User ID's and password will be given out to the main contact for the department once everything is created and set. The main contact can share this document with the rest of the users so everyone knows their log in credentials. You may also request a copy of this document, if needed.

Logging into the Training Server

Once everyone has their User ID's, each user can access the training server using their assigned User ID and shared password.

To access the training server:

  1. Each user will go to https://training.informant.tech on their computer.
  2. On the login screen, each user will enter their assigned user ID and the shared password and then click Enter Training Session.
  3. After a few moments, the Informant application will appear.
  4. The user can now use Informant in the training environment.

On the training server, each user has admin access to their own Informant database under a dummy user account associated with an sample officer named "Frank Johnson": in a live environment, users may have fewer permissions. The training database contains example records and users can also add their own records and edit records during training, and the admin permissions allow users to explore all of the features in the product.

These instructions will also be highlighted on the User ID document for reference.

After the training session

We typically allow users to access the training server for 2 weeks after the initial training date. During these 2 weeks, users may log in to the training server and use it at their convenience. You will be notified of the deadline on the day you are granted access to the training server.
