To comply with the CJIS Security Policy's requirement for displaying a "System Use Notification," we recommend that your IT provider set up a logon message that will be displayed on the Windows logon screen. This can be done by editing the following Group Policy settings in Windows:
- Interactive logon: Message title for users attempting to log on: Update this setting with the heading that will be shown for the notification. For example, this can be set to the text "System Use Notification."
- Interactive logon: Message text for users attempting to log on: Update this setting with the content of the notification message. We recommend you refer to the CIJS Security Policy or reach out to CLEAN for help with what specific language to include in the notification message.
These settings are located under Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options in the Group Policy editor.
Both of these policy settings need to be configured for the notification to appear for users. If your department uses Active Directory, these settings can be changed for all computers in your domain; otherwise, these settings can be updated on each computer.
Setting up a logon message in Windows ensures that access to any files or software on your computers is covered by the notification message, rather than attempting to apply the message to each software application separately. This is also important if you have CJI stored in other documents or files on the computers, or if you access CJI via other systems outside of Informant.
While we can't provide customer support for configuring Group Policy settings in Windows, information on how to do this can be found online, and your IT provider may already be familiar with how to change Group Policy settings.
