You'll need a LEJIS certificate to authenticate your agency to the LEJIS system. The certificate is a password-protected file that needs to be installed on your Informant server. You need a new LEJIS certificate when first setting up LEJIS, and if your current LEJIS certificate has expired.

This guide will walk you through the process of getting and installing a LEJIS certificate.

Obtain a LEJIS certificate

Certificates are issued by SAIC, the company that manages the LEJIS system. To request a certificate, email ronald "dot" plummer "at" saic "dot" com with the subject line "LEJIS Certificate Request" and provide the following details in the body of the email:

  • Agency Name
  • Agency ORI number
  • RMS Vendor (Informant)
  • Contact email address
  • Telephone number to text certificate password

Once your request has been granted, SAIC will send you the certificate in a PFX file and will text the certificate password to the phone number you provided in your email.

You'll then need to install the certificate on the computer where the LEJIS Interface is running (typically your Informant server) and set up the LEJIS Interface to use the certificate: the following sections will guide you through these steps.

Install the LEJIS certificate in the local machine store

  1. Log into your Informant server with a Windows account that has Administrator permissions.
  2. Copy the LEJIS certificate PFX file to the computer, saving it in a temporary location, such as on the Desktop.
  3. Right-click the PFX file and select Install PFX.
  4. In the Welcome to the Certificate Import Wizard window, select Local Machine and then click Next.
  5. A User Account Control prompt will appear: click Yes.
  6. In the "File to Import" window, the path to the PFX file will already be entered for you. Click Next.
  7. In the "Private key protection" window, enter the certificate password and check the Mark this key as exportable checkbox.
  8. Click Next.
  9. In the "Certificate Store" window, click Automatically select the certificate store based on the type of certificate, and then click Next.
  10. Click Finish on the next screen.
  11. You will get the following message: “The import was successful.” Click OK.
  12. We recommend backing up the PFX file to another location (such as a network folder or as part of a backup service) in case you need to reinstall the certificate in the future.

Next steps

  • If you are a new customer, the Informant support team will install the LEJIS Inerface on your Informant server and configure it to use the certificate you just installed during your scheduled implementation.
  • If you are an existing customer, follow the steps in How to configure a new LEJIS certificate in Informant's LEJIS Interface to link the newly-installed certificate to the LEJIS Interface software.
