You'll need a LEJIS certificate to use LEJIS: this is a special file that helps verify your agency's identity with the LEJIS data-sharing network. You will need to get this certificate from the company that manages LEJIS for the state and then install and configure the certificate on your Informant server machine.

This guide will walk you through this process.

Obtain a LEJIS certificate

Contact SAIC (the vendor that manages LEJIS for the state) via email to request a LEJIS certificate (reach out to [email protected] for SAIC's contact information). Provide the following details in the email to expedite the request:

  • Agency Name
  • ORI
  • RMS Vendor (Informant)
  • Contact email address
  • Telephone number to text certificate password

Once your request has been granted, SAIC will send you the certificate in a PFX file and will text the certificate password to the phone number you provided in your email.

You'll then need to install the certificate on the computer where the LEJIS Interface is running (typically your Informant server) and set up the LEJIS Interface to use the certificate: the following sections will guide you through these steps.

Install the LEJIS certificate in the local machine store

  1. Log into the computer where the LEJIS Interface is installed with a Windows account that has Administrator permissions.
  2. Copy the LEJIS certificate PFX file to the computer, saving it in a temporary location, such as on the Desktop.
  3. Right-click the PFX file and select Install PFX.
  4. In the Welcome to the Certificate Import Wizard window, select Local Machine and then click Next.
  5. A User Account Control prompt will appear: click Yes.
  6. In the "File to Import" window, the path to the PFX file will already be entered for you. Click Next.
  7. In the "Private key protection" window, enter the certificate password and check the Mark this key as exportable checkbox.
  8. Click Next.
  9. In the "Certificate Store" window, click Automatically select the certificate store based on the type of certificate, and then click Next.
  10. Click Finish on the next screen.
  11. You will get the following message: “The import was successful.” Click OK.
  12. We recommend backing up the PFX file to another location (such as a network folder or as part of a backup service) in case you need to reinstall the certificate in the future.

Configure the LEJIS Interface to use the installed LEJIS certificate

Note: If you haven't already, install the LEJIS Interface server role on the Informant server and/or Informant test machine. Refer to the LEJIS user guide in the Informant Help Center for details.

  1. Click the Windows Start menu and type "Informant Configuration Manager," then click the Informant Configuration Manager when it appears.
  2. If prompted to make changes to your device, click Yes.
  3. Click Server Roles in the sidebar.
  4.  Click Configure to the right of LEJIS Interface.
  5. Click the Certificate tab and click Load LEJIS Certificate.... Ensure that the highlighted certificate is the LEJIS certificate that was installed in the previous steps. If you do not see this certificate and see another certificate in its place, you may need to click More choices to display all available certificates - in this case, click the correct certificate to highlight it.
  6. Click OK to confirm the certificate selection.
