While it's important to back up your Informant database periodically, it's equally important to back up the other important files that are needed for Informant to work properly.


We recommend using an offsite backup solution to backup all of the files on your Informant server, and to also make sure your Informant attachments, in particular, are being backed up.


How to locate the standard Informant attachments folder


The standard Informant attachments folder is normally found under C:\Informant\Attachments and it contains all the attachments (mugshots, photos, audio, video, etc.) used in Informant records. This folder is configurable, so to make sure you are backing up the correct folder:


  1. Log into Informant with an Informant administrator account.
  2. Open Administration, and go to  Setup | Default Values.
  3. Confirm that you are backing up the folder specified in the "Attachments Folder" setting.


How to locate legacy attachment folders


If you were using attachments prior to version 3.27 (released in 2023), you may still have attachments located in "legacy" attachment folders. To find these folders:


  1. Log into Informant with an Informant administrator account.
  2. Open Administration, and go to  Setup | Attachment Folders.
  3. You'll get a message indicating that these folders are no longer used by Informant: click OK to dismiss this message.
  4. In the Attachments Folder window, verify that each folder listed is being backed up.
